Welcome to our Sundaram - Natural Handmade Soap
About us
Sundaram soap is not an ordinary commercial product. All the activities carried out at our ashram are done as yoga sadhana.
We strive for the highest quality in our soaps and our aim is to put out a product that is a gift to the world. Oneness with all ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ is the foundation of our method and approach. The first step is the procuring of the ingredients. We like to use fresh vegetables and fruits – for example our neem is plucked from our own trees just minutes before making the soap. These trees are entirely organic and pesticide free. Since we use only fresh ingredients, our soaps are made seasonally. Peach and cucumber soap in the monsoons, rhododendron in early spring and orange in winter and so on. Most of these fresh fruits and vegetation grow in our ashram or are available in the nearby area. Our soap is entirely hand made from measuring the ingredients to carrying buckets of water for cooling! To extracting the slippery aloe gel from its skin! Since we use the cold process method all the glycerin content is retained unlike in commercial factory made soaps where the hot process is used and the glycerin separated. Glycerin is a humectant and keeps the skin moist. Hence our soaps do not dry the skin like ordinary soaps. After achieving the required temperatures our soap is hand stirred. The soap is made entirely from pure coconut oil and sesame oils with occasional addition of neem and almond oils in those specific varieties. At the last possible moment the fresh ingredients are added to ensure that they retain maximum goodness. The special blend of essential and nature identical oils are also dropped into the thickening soap at the last moments. There is always a lot to clean up afterwards and all our tools and pots are thoroughly scrubbed and kept shining and ready for a fresh batch. After this our soap is poured into moulds and left to saponify. The last step is to plump them out of their moulds and then hand cut them with simple manual cutters and wires. One of the most important factors we have taken into account is the environment. The entire soap making process is energy friendly as we consume almost no power. For our packing we use recyclable materials like glass, paper, metal and not plastic. Our gift boxes are made from wood free paper. As we do not use any artificial color or preservatives the soaps change color after they have been cut and exposed to air. They take on the beautiful earthy and natural hues that are inherent in them. All our packing is also done by hand. The entire process is largely carried out by the sadhaks of our ashram as part of their spiritual endeavour through Works. We make only small batches of soap thus ensuring a high quality. Enthusiasm, the fun of experimentation, commitment to quality, sincerity of motive and wanting to place the best possible we can into the vast heart of the world family, these are the elements that go into our product.
A life of yoga entails being in harmony with all things and beings.
